The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has commended Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, for ensuring the continuation and completion of road projects abandoned by the immediate past administration.
In a statement issued over the weekend in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, the Chairman of NANS Ogun Joint Campus Committee, Gabriel Abiola Francis, also appealed to the governor to prioritize the rehabilitation of roads leading to campuses of tertiary institutions across the state. He specifically urged the governor not to forget his earlier promise to construct the access road to Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta.
Francis praised the governor for approving the reconstruction of several additional roads across the state, describing it as a major step toward the infrastructural development of Ogun.
He also applauded the administration’s approval for the procurement of ultra-modern security gadgets aimed at enhancing the state’s security architecture and safeguarding public infrastructure.
Governor Abiodun had earlier announced the approval of new road reconstruction projects during a recent weekly council meeting. Among the newly approved projects are the 5.4 km Ogbeere–Orita Mobi Junction Road in Ijebu East Local Government, the 3.2 km Erinlu–Imosan Road in Odogbolu Local Government, and the 2.0 km Imodi–Imosan Road, also in Odogbolu Local Government.
He noted that the new roads, along with 11 others previously approved for rehabilitation across the three senatorial districts, would enhance intra-state transportation for both commuters and the movement of farm produce.
Francis highlighted that the Abiodun-led administration has embarked on massive construction and reconstruction of roads since assuming office, adding that the state has witnessed significant infrastructural transformation under his leadership.
Commending the governor’s achievements across various sectors, particularly in education, the NANS chairman urged him to sustain the momentum and continue working to make Ogun State better than he met it.
He assured that students across the state would continue to support the administration in its drive to elevate Ogun’s socio-economic development.
