Mabel Oboh: ADC’s stateswoman of inclusivity, collective change, communications guru

Nigeria is currently facing significant challenges, with many citizens struggling to meet basic needs such as food. However, there is hope on the horizon through the African Democratic Congress, ADC, coalition, which aims to foster a brighter future for the nation by encouraging collaboration at both national and local levels.

But for an all-inclusive coalition, grounded politicians are needed to turn the hopes of Nigerians to tangible things and existential positive impacts. One of such is Mabel Oboh – politician, philanthropist, inclusivity advocate, media expert, and woman of integrity. ADC’s story is not complete without her impact.

Mabel’s Journey with the ADC

Mabel Oboh, a prominent party chieftain and ADC Lagos leader, and former national publicity secretary of the ADC, is deeply passionate about the coalition’s role in facilitating meaningful change. She emphasises that this movement goes beyond typical political frameworks; it is about uniting diverse groups to collaboratively improve Nigeria. By embracing the “ADC DNA,” participants can embody the party’s core values, which focus on integrity and vision.

Mabel’s journey with the ADC began as the spokesperson for the Ibeju-Lekki chapter bringing over 35 years of experience in media and journalism to the organisation. Later, she became the ADC’s Lagos publicity secretary, where her exemplary work caught the attention of Ralph Nwosu, the then-national chairman of the party. Nwosu invited her to take on an instrumental role within the national working committee, NWC.

Her contributions included promoting gender inclusivity, a project dear to Nwosu and the NWC. Her position as the National Director of Inclusion and Diversity highlights her dedication to fostering diversity within the party. Mabel served as the party’s national coordinator during the 2023 Lagos State governorship election, showcasing her ability to excel in key roles. She also ran for governor in Edo State in 2020, demonstrating her leadership capabilities. Although Mabel Oboh’s role in the ADC coalition isn’t explicitly defined, her background and experience position her as a prominent figure in the Lagos ADC coalition.

Mabel credits much of her political development to Ralph Okey Nwosu, who instilled the core principles of the ADC DNA in her. She reflects, “Everything I know and value in politics today is credited to Nwosu’s mentorship. His unwavering focus on discipline and vision for a better Nigeria truly shaped my journey.”

Mabel reaffirms her commitment to the ADC’s mission, inspired by Nwosu’s steadfast belief in creating a new Nigeria.

She expresses enthusiasm that the party is now led by capable leaders who will continue to embody the ADC culture, essential for healing and progress as a nation.

The ADC Coalition’s Strategy

At the core of the ADC coalition is a commitment to inclusivity and collective responsibility. Mabel praises the new leadership’s dedication, confident that they will contribute significantly to the coalition’s success. She views this as a pivotal step forward for Nigeria and wholeheartedly invites everyone to engage in this transformative political movement.

As a leader in Lagos, Mabel is determined to support the ADC’s efforts. “I am committed to doing everything possible to ensure the success of this coalition and our great party, keeping Nwosu’s vision ALIVE,” she stated. The ADC coalition is making notable progress in Lagos by welcoming leaders from various political backgrounds, including those from the PDP, Labour Party, and even members of the ruling APC. Positive developments are also emerging nationwide.

A Message of Hope

The ADC coalition offers an opportunity for unity among all Nigerians, advocating for a better future. Mabel encourages women, youth, and individuals with disabilities to contribute to shaping Nigeria’s trajectory. “We have nothing to lose, and we cannot go any lower. It’s imperative that we all actively participate and work diligently for us to go back up,” she advised.

The coalition’s inspiring message underscores the importance of unity in revitalising our nation. By collaborating, we can overcome the challenges that have impeded our progress for far too long. As Nigeria prepares for the 2027 elections, the need for a new direction is clear. The ADC coalition stands as a promising avenue, and Mabel’s insights serve as a roadmap for this journey.

The Way Forward

The ADC coalition is built on three foundational principles:

  • Inclusivity: Every Nigerian plays a vital role in shaping our collective future.
  • Collective Responsibility: Together, we can effectively confront the challenges ahead.
  • Hard Work: While quick fixes may be unrealistic, our united efforts can bring about meaningful change.

The crucial question remains: are Nigerians ready to embrace the journey toward a brighter future? The ADC coalition stands ready to lead, and Mabel’s unwavering dedication inspires us all to take that vital first step.
