On July 6, 2025, Hangout Session with IRETI took over a prominent events centre in the heart of Victoria Island, Lagos, gathering professionals, educators, creatives, and changemakers for an intentional, bold, and inclusive sex education experience.
While intimacy took center stage as amplified by the event’s theme “Building Intimacy”, the hangout served as a framework for transforming how society thinks, talks, and teaches about connection, health, and human sexuality, moving beyond surface-level conversation.
Guests explored a wide range of crucial topics like, reproductive health, emotional wellness, consent, communication, sexual health and boundaries, all approached from a shame-free, culturally grounded, and globally informed lens.
In many communities, silence around sex education still lingers, shaped by culture, religion, and generational gaps. This silence leaves individuals, especially women and couples, to figure out connection, pleasure, and sexual wellness on their own. The Hangout Session, therefore, directly challenged this reality, offering clarity, tools, compassion and language for people navigating their journeys.
Through raw dialogue, medical truths, laughter, and storytelling, the event emphasised that sex education isn’t a luxury but a foundational wellness education.
The lineup of speakers lit up the room with insight and empathy from Skuki (Laolu Oguniyi), Relationship Coach to Jestygbemi (Gbemi Onabolu), Serial Entrepreneur & Women’s Wellness Advocate; Soulspice (Hannah Jonathan), Sexuality Coach & NLP Practitioner; and Dr. Damian Avar (Sabi Doctor), Medical Doctor & Sexual Health Educator.
An initiative of visionary intimacy coach and sex therapist, Iretioluwa Oba-Okojie, notable for redefining sex education since 2019 through her signature entertainment-infused workshops, Building Intimacy 4 created a safe, vibrant space for personal and collective growth.
“We don’t just teach about sex. We help people return to themselves, whole, aware, and unashamed”, said Oba-Okojie.
Distinguished guests included: Dr. Tewa Onasanya, Founder, ELOY Awards & Conference; Ufuoma Ilesanmi, GM, Haven Homes; Dr. Gina Ojo, Founder, Geena Foodies & Spice; Chef Yide Kuti; Folashade Abimbola, Founder, Prime88 Concepts; and many more.
This was the fourth installment in the Building Intimacy series, and though Lagos hosted this edition, the movement is far from local. With previous sessions held in cities like Manchester, UK, and plans for future global activations, Iretioluwa’s work continues to challenge norms and bridge education gaps across borders.
Through her workshops and sex-ed events, she leads transformative conversations around, Reproductive Health, Sexual Health, Intimacy & Connection, Consent & Boundaries, Emotional Wellness.
As the curtains closed on this Lagos edition, one thing was clear: this is just the beginning. The mission to normalise sex education, globally, intentionally, and with heart, is well underway.
