From Calabar to the World: MEGA-BOY set to drop ‘Blessings’ as new cultural force in music

Born Samuel Daniel Usim and known by his magnetic stage name MEGA-BOY, this rising music sensation is ready to mark his name in African music history with the release of his highly anticipated single, “Blessings,” dropping on July 11th, 2025.

Originally from Akwa Ibom State, but bred and raised in the vibrant streets of Calabar, MEGA-BOY isn’t just another newcomer. He’s a bold cultural innovator, blending Afrobeat, soul, jazz, reggae, R&B, and even country music into what he calls a movement in motion. The name MEGA-BOY, he says, is “a dynamic fusion of legends—MJ, Bob Marley, Fela, Jay-Z, Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy… crafted from global greatness, reborn in one voice.”

First Steps, Loud Echoes

MEGA-BOY recorded his first official track on October 22nd, 2023, at HeluEntertainment Studio in Calabar, working with producers PfizzyDeBeatzKilla and LegendaryKing. The song was inspired by a mysterious girl from his neighborhood and the infectious energy of Asake’s Mr Money With The Vibe album. That moment sparked a fire in him, and he’s been on a steady climb since.

His breakout single “BRANAMA” earned him early recognition, especially after a thrilling live performance at the Whokes Standup Comedy Concert and FunFest 2023 in Calabar. That’s also when his mother—now his biggest supporter and prayer warrior—first realized her son was made for stardom.

A Voice for Love and Legacy

Drawing inspiration from icons like Michael Jackson, Fela, Wizkid, Burna Boy, Tems, SZA, Whitney Houston, and Billie Eilish, MEGA-BOY doesn’t just make music—he creates experiences. He wants to be known as “The Lover Boy”, a soulful storyteller whose music is deeply rooted in themes of love, heritage, identity, and emotion.

“I’m a genre-bender,” he explains. “What makes me unique is my ability to move between genres with ease—fusing different sounds and emotions in a way that feels fresh and powerful. I create music how I feel.”

“Blessings” Is More Than a Song—It’s a Statement

Set for release on July 11th, Blessings is positioned as MEGA-BOY’s most emotional and powerful release yet. He describes it as “a testimony for dreamers who’ve felt overlooked but kept going.” With an Afro-soul foundation wrapped in gratitude and spiritual depth, the track is designed to meet listeners in that raw, quiet space between struggle and breakthrough.

“The core of ‘Blessings’ is inspiration and gratitude. I wrote it after nights of silent frustration and prayers. It’s a reminder that delay isn’t denial. Blessings are coming. I want people to feel seen and hopeful when they hear it.”

Looking Ahead: Global Dreams, African Roots

In five years, MEGA-BOY envisions himself headlining international festivals, collaborating globally, and creating timeless records rooted in African excellence. He doesn’t just want to be an artist; he wants to be a cultural brand—a bridge between tradition and global innovation. With plans to explore fashion, film, and immersive live experiences, MEGA-BOY is daring to dream big from the heart of Calabar.

His innovation? Afro-conscious art—music and visuals that don’t just entertain but spark meaningful conversations around mental health, love, and heritage.
