Broadcaster Breaks Guinness World Record for longest radio talk show

By Olayinka Latona

Olusegun Oloyede Daniels, popularly known as O’Daniels, has made history by breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest radio talk show, broadcasting non-stop for an astounding 120 hours.

The record-breaking feat was achieved at exactly 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at the studios of Hi-Impact 102.1FM, located at No. 32 Coker Road, Ilupeju, Lagos State. O’Daniels surpassed the previous record of 105 hours, previously held by Akwa Ibom broadcaster, George Iniabasi Essien.

Reflecting on the marathon broadcast, O’Daniels shared: “The journey wasn’t easy. By the second day, I felt like quitting — it was that serious. I started doubting I could do it. But my goal, and the support from my team and everyone cheering me on, kept me going.”

He recalled his unexpected start in broadcasting in 2013 while studying Geography and Environmental Management:

“Though I wasn’t formally trained in journalism, one of my lecturers asked me to present the weather report on the school radio station. That’s where this journey began. I never imagined becoming a broadcaster, but that was the beginning of the dream.”

To aspiring broadcasters, he advised: “Be sure of your chosen career path. Stay focused and determined. Pursue knowledge, internships, and always strive for excellence.”

Dr. Adeniyi Ifetayo, CEO of Megastar Media Communications and a public affairs analyst, encouraged Nigerian youths to pursue excellence and take responsibility for positive change.

“Don’t settle for mediocrity. With resilience and determination, give your best in your profession and contribute meaningfully to national development. Break your own records in your field and inspire others through your career. Don’t just complain about the system—ask what you can do to change it.”

Commending O’Daniels, he added: “As someone involved in corporate social responsibility and a regular guest on Hi-Impact FM, I was thrilled to support this feat. It’s vital to encourage such tenacity—proving that whatever is thinkable is achievable.”

Oluwanifemi Falabi, O’Daniels’ project manager, described the record attempt as a bold step in inspiring others through media:

“He wanted to make a mark in the media space. These 120 hours embodied passion, purpose, and power. As a dream catalyst, O’Daniels aimed to inspire people of all ages, proving that background doesn’t limit dreams.”

Falabi also noted O’Daniels’ commitment to youth empowerment and education, with efforts aimed at taking vulnerable youth off the streets.
