Taraba State is on course to establish its first-ever waste recycling plant, following the successful conclusion of its maiden International Investment Summit.

The project, a partnership between Sector Lead Limited and the state government under the Waste-to-Wealth initiative, aims to leverage green technology for sustainable development.

During an inspection of dump sites across Jalingo, the Special Adviser to Governor Agbu Kefas on Policy and Strategic Communication, Nelson Dimas, described the initiative as a landmark in the state’s environmental and economic reform efforts.

“This development reflects Governor Kefas’ bold vision to transform environmental challenges into economic opportunities,” Dimas said. “The Waste-to-Wealth initiative goes beyond waste management—it’s about unlocking value, creating jobs, improving public health, and preserving our environment for future generations.”

Sector Lead’s Technical Counsel, Victor Dogo, revealed that the recycling plant would be located in Sibre, a suburb of the capital city. He explained that the inspection tour was aimed at understanding the waste dynamics of Taraba to guide the design of a tailored and sustainable solution.

“We are here to assess the waste landscape and develop a system that not only combats pollution but also generates energy and valuable byproducts,” Dogo stated. “The data we’ve gathered will inform the plant’s infrastructure and operational strategy.”

The State Commissioner for Waste Management, Shonzen Bernard, noted that the involvement of Sector Lead Limited signifies growing investor confidence in Taraba under Governor Kefas’ administration.

“This is a shining example of forward-thinking and proactive leadership,” Bernard said. “We are optimistic about the potential to convert waste into wealth and create a cleaner, more prosperous Taraba.”

He added that the initiative is being driven by the Strategy and Portfolio Delivery Office (SPDO) in collaboration with Sector Lead Limited, and will initially target Jalingo and Wukari before scaling to other parts of the state.

The recycling facility is expected to produce renewable energy, reusable materials, and job opportunities—positioning Taraba State as a pioneer of green innovation in Nigeria.
