In the heart of Ondo State, Nigeria, a transformative movement is underway, spearheaded by Spent Academy and its flagship event, Techxcellence. This initiative is not just about technology; it’s about nurturing a generation of tech-savvy individuals equipped to drive innovation and development across Africa.
Techxcellence, a student and youth-focused event, is designed to educate, enlighten, and empower young minds in all areas of technology. Fully powered by Spent Academy, a leading technology training institute in Ondo State, Techxcellence has rapidly evolved since its inception on April 18, 2024. The success of the inaugural event, Techxcellence 1.0, paved the way for subsequent mini-events like Tech Hangout and Connectify, fostering a continuous learning and networking environment. The momentum culminated in the massive Techxcellence 2.0, held on June 25th – June 28th, 2025, which amplified the event’s reach and impact.
At the helm of this technological revolution is Spirit Philip Omokanye, the visionary founder of Spent Academy, Spent Digital Labs, and Techxcellence. As a passionate technology advocate, Spirit Philip is deeply committed to empowering the youth and accelerating technology evolution in Ondo City. His leadership has been instrumental in Spent Academy’s remarkable achievements, including training over 3000 secondary school students in basic technology and certifying 200 students in various tech skills such as frontend development and computer literacy. Additionally, the academy has trained over 100 youths in diverse tech skills, with ongoing programs to further expand its impact.
Spent Academy’s influence extends far beyond Ondo State. The institution is embarking on an ambitious “Elevate 1.0” program, aiming to train over 5000 Africans in four major tech skills. This initiative underscores the academy’s commitment to fostering technological talent across the continent. Spirit Philip Omokanye’s expertise as a Web3 developer and tech advocate has also led to his involvement in prominent events such as Web3lagos, Educon 25, and the Nigeria Data Intelligence Summit, further solidifying his reputation as a thought leader in the tech space.
The impact of Techxcellence and Spent Academy has not gone unnoticed. The institution was honored with the “Best Institution of the Year” award, presented by Hon. Tomide Akinribido, SSA to the Governor on ICT. Spirit Philip Omokanye was also recognized as the “Web3 Idolo of the Year” for his significant contributions to the Web3 community.
Looking ahead, Techxcellence is set to broaden its reach through the establishment of Techxcellence AFUED, Techxcellence UNIMED, Techxcellence FUTA, and Techxcellence ONDO. These communities will serve as vital channels for Spent Academy to empower even more individuals with technological skills and knowledge. By 2026, Techxcellence 2.0 aims to gather 3000 people in Ondo City, creating a vibrant hub for technological innovation and collaboration.
