The 2025 Ogiame Atuwatse inter collegiate quiz and debate competition has come to a close with Dore Numa college and International Unity school , all in Warri, Delta state going home with a cash prize of ten million naira each.
Dore Numa secondary school came top in the debate category while International Unity School won the quiz contest.
Eight schools from the shortlisted 64 participated in the Grand finale in Warri South local government area.
Speaking at the colorful closing ceremony the Olu of Warri Ogiame Atuwatse III charged students and youths to embrace education ,.adding that they should pursue their legitimate visions and goals with commitment and vigour.
Represented by Chief Wilson Oley, he congratulated the winners and all the participants.“Set up a goal for yourself and work towards it. This is the only way you can become somebody of vital importance in society”, he said.
Chairman of CORA Care Foundation and the sole representative of the Olu of Warri Liaison to NNPCL, Collins Edema who was chief organiser of the competition graciously thanked the Olu of Warri Ogiame Atuwatse III for sponsoring the programme, adding he urged parents and guardians to be actively involved in guarding their children and wards on the path to success. Represented by Pastor Tuoyo Coker , Secretary of the foundation, Edema , said parents and guardians share in the blame when the young ones via off the right path.
Winners of the debate competition, Master Lawani Utienyi (SS3) and Miss Obiakor Chioma Scholastica, thanked the monarch for the event. They also expressed gratitude to their teachers for preparing them adequately. Winners of the quiz competition, Master Bright Duru (SS2) and Master Great Mbanasor (SS2) spoke along similar lines.
Mr. Samson Emokiniovo Egheneji, principal of Dore Numa College who spoke for the participating schools also commended the Olu of Warri for funding the competition, describing the event as an opportunity to discover and celebrate academic excellence in schools.
In the debate category Delta Secondary School got two million naira for second place position, Ugbokodo Secondary school that came third got N1 million, and Rise Secondary School the fourth went with N500,000.
In the quiz competition , Word of Faith Schools came second and got N2 million, Bench Hill Schools came third and had N1 million, Our Saviour School came fourth place and got N500,000.
Miss Oritsetimeyin Ofesi of Rise International School got a cash prize of N2 million from Ruth Gender Foundation in recognition of her outstanding performance as the best female participant.
