The National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) has on behalf of over 28.1 million Nigerian polytechnic students, commended the outstanding contributions of Honourable Sunday Dekeri Anamero, also known as Danco whose legacy in education, youth empowerment and socio-economic development transcended the ordinary and inspires the future.
NAPS, in a statement titled ” A statesman of substance: Hon.Sunday Dekeri Anamero and rebirth of responsible leadership “, signed by Comrade Eshiofune Paul Oghayan GCNPS (Shoprite),
President, National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS), said Hon. Sunday Dekeri Anamero is not merely a representative of his people but a symbol of what is still possible in Nigerian leadership.
“When the drumbeat changes, the dance must also change.” – African Proverb
“The greatest threat to freedom is the absence of responsibility.” – Wole Soyinka. In the turbulent theatre of Nigeria’s contemporary governance where rhetoric too often replaces responsibility and politics drowns in performance, the rise of a leader who acts rather than grandstands, who builds instead of blusters is not just welcome it is revolutionary.”
“Hailing from the humble yet dignified soils of Ogute-Oke in Etsako East Edo State, Hon. Anamero’s life is a powerful metaphor of progress. In line with the Igbo proverb “When a man decides to eat with elders he must wash his hands well,” he has through integrity and vision earned a seat at the table of transformational leaders.”
“His philanthropic foundation, Anamero Idofe Anamero Foundation established in 2012 has become a lifeline to thousands. He has paid WAEC fees for over 15,000 indigent students, constructed classrooms and educational infrastructure, drilled community boreholes and facilitated rural electrification. These are not mere gestures of goodwill they are blueprints of generational impact,” NAPS said.
Qouting late Chinua Achebe who once said “An elder who sees tomorrow must guide the youth away from the thorns of today,” the students said Hon. Anamero is such an elder whose vision does not end at speeches but takes shape in schools communities and in changing lives.
They recalled that as a Member of the House of Representatives representing Etsako Federal Constituency,Hon. Anamero has championed bills that prioritize the people. “From his drive for the Federal College of Education (Technical) in Okpella to advocating for a Federal Medical Centre in Uzairue he understands that nation-building begins with institution-building.”
“His policies favor the growth of technical and vocational education a progressive stand that aligns with our own call to elevate ND/HND to B.Tech status rather than abolish the polytechnic identity. In him we see a lawmaker who respects the skill and spirit of the Nigerian youth.”
‘Hon. Anamero does not govern from an ivory tower. He walks among his people, listens and acts. When he declared “I will not develop Edo State on social media,” he reaffirmed his resolve that governance must be grounded not glamorized.”
‘His ₦32 million empowerment grant to 32 youths ₦1 million each, was not a political stunt but a strategic intervention. His facilitation of CAC registrations for young businesses reflects a deep understanding that economic freedom starts with ownership and formalization. He is not just handing out capital he is planting seeds of self-reliance.”
“Plato warned that “The price good men pay for indifference to public affairs is to be ruled by evil men.” Honourable Anamero did not stand aside. He entered the arena not for self-promotion but to serve. In this man we find not only a builder of roads but of reputations not only a legislator of laws but of legacy.”
“Honourable Sunday Dekeri Anamero is not merely a representative of his people he is a symbol of what is still possible in Nigerian leadership. He reminds us that even in a system marred by cynicism there are still those who lead with courage compassion and clarity.”
“As a student body and as a voice of Nigerian youth we salute Hon. Anamero. We urge other public servants to emulate his model of leadership where dignity meets duty and service replaces show.A man who builds a house for others during the dry season must not be forgotten when the storms return.” – African Proverb. We shall not forget. We shall celebrate. And we shall support leaders who like Anamero let their works be the sermon,” the students said.
