The people of Niger-Delta resident in the South West, on Saturday, hailed the Publisher and Chairman of Vanguard newspapers, Mr. Sam Amuka on his 90th birthday celebration saying he has distinguished himself as a first class nationalist.
In a congratulatory message by the Coordinator of Ijaw Monitoring Group and activist, on behalf Niger-Deltans in the South West, Mr Joseph Evah extolled Amuka-Pemu’s unblemished service to the nation from his days as a newspaper reporter during the civil war and beyond managing men and women in the media world.
“The media guru from Itsekiri land has distinguished himself as a first class nationalist for over four decades and during any ethnic crisis in any part of the country.
The Niger Delta’s foremost journalist sacrificed time, money and energy to promote unity as a bridge builder. The younger generation of leaders will continue to draw inspiration from the life and times of Uncle Sam as he is fondly called.
“As our proud father in the NigerDelta region, we that are resident in the South West celebrated our icon’s 80th birthday ten years in his company in Lagos like a carnival. We shall repeat the celebration during this special 90th birthday by the grace granted him by God.
“We, however, urge the Federal Government and Delta State government to immortalise the media icon and Nigerian patriot to inspire future generations.”
