The grand Old Great Hall of the College of Medicine, University of Lagos (CMUL), Idi-Araba, pulsed with pride and purpose as the KB Klub marked another milestone in its storied 56-year journey.
With tradition and transformation converging, the launch of Kaizen: Ethos of Heroes, the 2024 edition of its prestigious annual magazine, Medi-Phil, captured more than applause – it captured hearts.
Hosted with charm and precision by General Secretary Sherifideen Oloyede and Agbaraojo Qudus, the event radiated the ethos of the Klub: excellence, service, and brotherhood.
Klub President Olomiyete Ayobami welcomed a hall full of luminaries, alumni, and students with a stirring address on the mission behind the edition. His words resonated as a challenge to remember the spirit that binds “Kbites” across generations.
Former Editor-in-Chief, Oladipupo Paul, took the audience on a reflective tour through the soul of Kaizen: Ethos of Heroes, describing the issue as more than pages-it is a tribute to values lived, sacrifices made, and the unsung legacy of quiet heroes.
The Deputy Provost, who stood in for the Provost, reaffirmed the college’s enduring support for the Klub’s vision.
“For over five decades, this brotherhood has remained a beacon of philanthropy and academic excellence. You are the heritage we are proud of,” he remarked.
The event’s emotional high points came from celebrated alumni whose lives had been shaped within the Klub’s fold. Life Kbite and Phil Face honoree, Prof. Butali Azeez, drew a standing ovation after recounting formative moments that cemented his purpose-moments born within the KB walls.
Senior Special Adviser to the Special Adviser on Health, Mrs. Sarah Balogun, reinforced the Klub’s relevance from a policy perspective. Citing support from the Lagos State Ministry of Health and the edition’s profile of Commissioner Prof Akin Abayomi, she praised the Klub for “matching youthful energy with social impact.”
During the citation and presence of Medi Face, Prof Akinsanya Osibogun, a proud KB alumnus whose remarks spotlighted the far-reaching influence of the Klub’s values. “The great men I walked these halls with are now surgeons, leaders, reformers,” he said. “We carried the spirit of KB into the world.”
The event also honored trailblazers including retired Major General Amusu-Nigeria’s second female commander of the Army Medical Corps-and Life Kbite Dr. Habeebu Muhammad of NSIA-LUTH Cancer Centre. A solemn minute of silence honored the late Major General Adewoye, a revered figure in KB lore.
A highlight reel of the Klub’s recent projects, including Your Power to Give Life and Stack Reform, underscored their continued impact across healthcare and social reform.
Closing out the event was Editor-in-Chief Yussuf Al-ameen, whose heartfelt gratitude echoed through the hall. “This edition,” he said, “is a product of relentless commitment. It belongs to everyone who dared to dream and deliver.”
“Kaizen: Ethos of Heroes” is a digital testament to what can be achieved when vision is backed by dedication-and a reminder that the heroes of tomorrow are forged in the quiet efforts of today.
