As Nigerians mark Democracy Day, Dr. Raymond Edoh, a prominent youth advocate and public figure, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his efforts in deepening democratic governance and fostering national unity.

He also used the occasion to rally young Nigerians to remain actively engaged in building a stronger and more inclusive country.

Speaking in Abuja on Wednesday, Dr. Edoh described the celebration as a moment of reflection and renewed commitment to the democratic ideals that underpin Nigeria’s progress.

He noted that the sacrifices of past heroes must not be forgotten, urging citizens to uphold the spirit of patriotism and resilience.

“President Tinubu’s leadership has signaled a renewed commitment to democratic principles and economic revitalisation,” Dr. Edoh said. “His administration’s policy direction is driving growth, attracting investments, and laying the groundwork for a more stable future.”

Highlighting recent economic projections from the National Bureau of Statistics, which show a 3.3% growth rate, Dr. Edoh stressed the importance of youth participation in sustaining national progress. He encouraged young Nigerians to engage in entrepreneurship, community development, and politics as a means of shaping the nation’s future.

“Rather than simply protesting or complaining, the youth must vote, advocate for inclusive policies, and hold leaders accountable through legal means,” he said. “Our voice and our vote are tools of change.”

Dr. Edoh also underscored the significance of education in empowering young people. Citing a 2023 UNESCO report, he emphasized that higher education and skills development are key to reducing poverty and accelerating economic growth.

“The youth must prioritise education, embrace lifelong learning, and prepare for the demands of the future job market,” he added.

Calling for unity across ethnic, religious, and political lines, Dr. Edoh urged Nigerians to embrace diversity and work collectively toward shared national goals. He praised the Tinubu administration’s focus on regional inclusiveness and balanced representation, noting that such efforts are essential to strengthening national cohesion.

“As we celebrate Democracy Day, let us remember that the hard work of today is the foundation for a better tomorrow,” Dr. Edoh concluded. “We owe it to ourselves and future generations to stay committed to building a Nigeria we can all be proud of.”
