Shafa Energy launches CNG to support Nigeria’s cleaner energy agenda

Shafa Energy, a subsidiary of AYM Shafa Holdings Limited, has announced the launch of Shafa CNG, a new initiative aimed at promoting sustainable and affordable energy solutions in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration’s goals. The company revealed plans to open its first Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) station in Abuja as part of efforts to reduce energy costs and environmental impact for Nigerians.

Alhaji Yakubu A. Maishanu, Executive Chairman of AYM Shafa Holdings, said the initiative “represents a major step forward in our commitment to sustainable energy solutions” and aligns with the federal government’s vision for a cleaner and more affordable energy future. He added that Shafa CNG underscores the company’s dedication to reducing environmental footprints while enhancing Nigerians’ quality of life.

The move comes in the wake of the 2023 removal of fuel subsidies, which accelerated the adoption of CNG as a cost-effective alternative to traditional fuels. The federal government has since expanded CNG infrastructure nationwide, increasing conversion centres from 7 to 193 and attracting $440 million in private sector investment.

Shafa CNG is part of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (P-CNGi), launched in 2023, which aims to have one million CNG vehicles on Nigerian roads by 2027 and establish 1,000 conversion and refuelling stations across the country. Maishanu emphasized that the initiative is designed to offer reliable, efficient, and eco-friendly energy solutions that support community well-being and national prosperity.

He expressed optimism that Shafa CNG will have a lasting positive impact on business, communities, and the environment, and pledged collaboration with partners and stakeholders to promote wider adoption of CNG for a sustainable energy future in Nigeria.

This development complements other clean energy efforts, such as the recent launch of Nigeria’s first Electric Vehicle charging station by Shafa Energy and partners, marking significant progress in the country’s energy transition.
