ABUJA- AHEAD of 2027 Nasarawa State gubernatorial election, former Inspector-General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu, has declared his intention to contest for the number one position in the State.

Following his show of interest, a prominent coalition of formal and informal traders, under the aegis of the Allied Group of Nasarawa Professionals (AGNP), has expressed strong support for him, with a promise to produce a million votes.

In a statement on Friday from its state headquarters in Keffi, the group described Adamu’s entry into the race as “a moment of renewed hope” for the people of Nasarawa.

The AGNP, comprising a broad network of business leaders and professionals, pledged to mobilise at least one million votes in support of the former police chief.

The statement, jointly signed by the AGNP State Director, Husseini Gana, and Publicity Secretary, Saliu Hamzat, highlighting Adamu’s achievements during his tenure as IGP, praised his focus on community policing, intelligence-led security strategies, and the adoption of technology in law enforcement. These, they said, are strong indicators of his capacity for transformational leadership.

The group emphasised that Adamu’s tenure was marked by visionary reforms that significantly impacted the country’s security landscape.

Following a resolution at its monthly congress, the group noted that it had conducted a thorough assessment of the leadership profiles of various aspirants before arriving at its decision to support Adamu.

“These are the kind of strategic, actionable, and inclusive policies we need at the state level,” the statement read.

Beyond his security background, the AGNP highlighted Adamu’s extensive experience in public service, humanitarian work, and development planning. According to the group, his leadership style is rooted in discipline, service, and strategic execution qualities they believe are essential for Nasarawa’s progress.

“Though we are a non-partisan body, we boldly affirm that Mohammed Adamu is the most credible and prepared candidate to succeed the current governor,” the statement continued.

The group announced that it had begun mobilising both grassroots and urban support, expressing confidence in securing no fewer than one million votes for Adamu on election day.

The AGNP also urged the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to consider giving its 2027 gubernatorial ticket to Adamu, describing him as “a square peg in a square hole” whose leadership would ensure continuity in infrastructure and economic development across the state.

“Leadership and governance are collective responsibilities,” Hamzat added. “We believe that with Mohammed Adamu, Nasarawa will witness a new dawn of purposeful development.”

Adamu’s endorsement by AGNP is expected to influence political alignments and heighten consultations as preparations for the 2027 elections gain momentum.

Recall that the former police chief recently declared his intention to run under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, during a meeting with the party’s State Working Committee in Lafia, the state capital. He stated that his decision was driven by a “clarion call” from the people of Nasarawa who trust in his leadership and governance experience as he pledged to run an inclusive, people-centred administration if elected.
