ABUJA — AHEAD of the February 2026 council election, the Labour Party aspirant for the chairmanship position at the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) Hon Ifeanyichukwu Ajaegbu has stated that the current leadership of the area council has performed abysmally in the delivery of democratic dividends.

Speaking to party faithful at the Abuja office of the party on Wednesday, Hon Ajaegbu who obtained his nomination form for the contest promised to digitalise AMAC and making a maga city through the instrumentality of technology and massive investments.

He mentioned areas that would attract his attention, to include infrastructure development, education, health and wellbeing, economic empowerment and job creation, economic sustainability and climate change as well as security, justice and community safety.

Comrade Ajaegbu further stated: “It is evident that the current leadership has performed below par in delivering the dividends to our people at the grassroots.

“AMAC which is supposed to be the center for development, a shining example for other local governments to emulate, is still characterized with poor infrastructure in communities, inadequate healthcare services, poor waste management, lack of transparency, and the list goes on.

“It’s time for a new leadership that priorities transparency, accountability, and community engagement. I want to assure our supporters, party members and the general public that I’m dedicated to upholding the values, ideologies and principles of our party. My aspiration is driven by a passion to serve and make positive change”.

The LP chairman in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Diugwu Peter Chukwuemeka, warned aspirants for the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) chairmanship and councillor positions against submitting fake academic credentials.

“Do not present fake academic credentials. Do not be surprised that your family members will report you. If you have fake credentials, do not pick our forms,” Chukwuemeka said.
