In a major step toward strengthening Nigeria’s legal and commercial framework in the gas sector, the Legal Audit Committee on Agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) for Accelerated Gas Development Projects (AGDPs) and High-Profile Arbitration Matters has submitted its final report.

On May 14, 2025, the Committee, chaired by Mr. Olasupo Shasore, SAN, Senior Partner at African Law Practice (ALP NG & Co.), presented the report to the Honourable Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, at the Ministry of Justice in Abuja. This was disclosed in a statement by ALP NG & Co.

Inaugurated in November 2024, the Committee was tasked with auditing agreements and MOUs related to AGDPs, ensuring alignment with the Nigerian Gas Master Plan, and assessing commercial risks to the nation. Additionally, it reviewed concluded arbitration cases to identify legal and commercial vulnerabilities that may have exposed Nigeria to risks.

The Committee’s recommendations are expected to inform future government contracting strategies and provide a robust risk matrix for enhancing Nigeria’s standing in international arbitration.

The statement also commended Mr. Shasore for his exemplary leadership in guiding the committee’s work and contributing to national development through legal diligence.
