An Osun State High Court court sitting in Ilesha on Thursday, rejected an application seeking to halt the coronation of the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland.
It would be recalled that the Arimoro family of Bilaro Oluodo Ruling House (Ilesa), has instituted a case against Prince Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, and nine others.
Presiding over the case, Justice J. Agboola, who took over the suit from Justice A. Aderibigbe, noted that the court will not grant any injunction until all applications regarding service and harmonisation of parties are addressed.
He held that the pleadings were extended over four months instead of 60 days, noting that both parties have not been serious with the case.
According to him, “Its so sad that this pleadings were extended over four months instead of 60 days. Both parties have not been serious with the case.
“However, until pending application has been addressed, it will be unwise for the court to grant the interlocutory injunction.”
Earlier in his prayer, the counsel to the claimant, Oyebola Odeleye, urged the court to grant an interlocutory injunction stopping the coronation, but counsel to the state government, argued that parties were not perfectly served.
Meanwhile, ruling family of Arimoro has kicked against the selection process of the Owa Obokun of Ijeshaland, citing lack of due process.
Speaking outside the court, Prince Kayode Adewale, noted that selection process was not in accordance with the already laid down procedure of the land.
He said “I am aware of the coronation coming up today ( Friday). ‘It is a ceremony. This does not affect our case. Litigation could be long, but justice will prevail in the end. Our position as a family is that the procedure of the emergence of Prince Clement Haastrup was not in line with the tradition of Ijesaland. I believe justice will prevail.
‘We will stand and work with the law because we are all abiding citizens. Let them do the coronation they want to do, but we will still have another real coronation. We are focused on the finished line.”
The judge however, adjourned the case to 3rd of July, 2025 for further hearing.
