The maiden summit of the Nigerian Former Legislators Forum (NFLF) took place in Enugu, convened by Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu.

The event brought together past and present lawmakers from the National, State, and Local Government Assemblies, including prominent figures like Senators Ken Nnamani, Anyim Pius Anyim, Rochas Okorocha, and others.

The summit focused on leveraging the collective experience of former legislators as a national asset, aiming to support sustainable democracy. Key resolutions included conducting post-legislative scrutiny of laws since 1999, particularly constitutional amendments related to the devolution of powers and reforms in sectors such as electricity, railways, and correctional services.

The forum will serve as a permanent center for strategic legislative support, promoting sustainable transformation. Participants expressed gratitude to Deputy Speaker Kalu for his dedication in organizing the event.

During his address, Kalu emphasized the importance of the forum in reducing the pressures on former legislators, providing mentorship, and forming a policy-pressure group. He advocated for leveraging technology for mentorship and drawing global partnerships to enhance legislative practice.

Former Speaker Yakubu Dogara delivered the keynote speech, stressing the role of ex-legislators in promoting democratic values and forming alliances with civil society and international partners. He encouraged members to use their expertise to drive social change and national progress.

The summit also urged the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to remain committed to economic recovery efforts amid current challenges.
