The present economic hardship in the country has been described as an impediment to humanitarian services across the country.

This was disclosed by the Multiple Council Chairperson, Lions Club International, MD404 Lion Anogwi Anyawu while fielding questions from newsmen at a media briefing to herald the 18th Multiple Districts Convention of the club in Osogbo on Wednesday.

He said members of the club have to downgrade their live style to accommodate helping other people with need across the country, saying no level of economic hardship would stop Lions Club from embarking on humanitarian services.

According to him, the economic situation in the country and the continent is excruciating and affect membership drive. But the core objective of Lions Club International is service to humanity without expectation.

“Hence, as members what we do is to down grade life styles to accommodate helping those in need. We cannot abandon the needy, it is not in our habit to leave the downtrodden to themselves. Those who fly first class down grade to premium class and those who fly premium down grade to economy. Our people who fly economy now have to do so once in three years.

“All of these is to allow for us to cater for those in need. We cannot abandon anyone in need”, he added.

He highlighted part of the Club’s project in its 60 years of existence to include an standard Eye Centre in Osogbo, Diabetes Centre, Ede, Osun State. Dialysis Centre at LUTH, Lagos State, Accident and Emergency Hospital, Sagamu, Ogun State, International standard orphanage Lekki, Lagos State among others.
