Elders and political leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta Central Senatorial District converged in Ughelli on Monday, May 20, 2025, in a high-profile meeting to deliberate on the future of the party in the state and express unanimous support for key figures in the party’s national and regional leadership.
The meeting, which brought together respected party stalwarts including Chief (Prof.) S.W.E Ibodje, Chief Tuesday Onoge, Hon. Ejaife Odebala, Dr. (Mrs.) Veronica Ogbuagu, and others, reaffirmed the unity and strategic direction of the party in Delta Central.
In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, the leaders extended a warm welcome to former members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who have defected to the APC. The forum urged new entrants to promptly register at their respective wards and called on ward and local government executives to ensure a smooth and inclusive integration process.
The gathering also reaffirmed its unwavering support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima. Describing Tinubu’s leadership as “visionary” and impactful, the group passed a vote of confidence in the president and his administration for strides made in infrastructure and human capital development.
Furthermore, the elders praised the APC National Chairman, Dr. Umar Ganduje, and the National Working Committee, commending their efforts to position the party for success ahead of the 2027 general elections. A resounding vote of confidence was passed on the national leadership.
One of the most notable resolutions was the unanimous endorsement of Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, CFR, former Deputy Senate President and the 2023 Delta State governorship candidate. The leaders applauded his dedication and tangible contributions to the growth of the party, particularly his instrumental role in securing key legislative victories in Delta State. A special appeal was made to the national leadership and the presidency to continue to recognize and accord Senator Omo-Agege the honor due to his efforts and influence.
The communiqué was signed by 25 notable party leaders across the eight local government areas of Delta Central, including the meeting’s convener, Chief (Dr.) Obiuwevbi Ominimini, and other influential figures such as Prof. S.W.E Ibodje, Chief Pius Odioko Ovbije, and Dr. Wilson Omene.
The Ughelli meeting is seen as a critical move to consolidate APC’s strength in Delta Central and build momentum ahead of future elections, with a united front now rallying behind President Tinubu and Senator Omo-Agege.
