Global competition offers $25,000 for insights on future of the world economy

Global competition offers $25,000 for insights on future of the world economy

Bridgewater Associates, one of the world’s top hedge funds, has partnered with international advocacy group Global Citizen to launch Forecasting the Future: A Modern Economics Challenge, a global competition calling on young minds to predict the impact of shifting global economic dynamics.

The challenge focuses on what Bridgewater describes as the rise of “Modern Mercantilism”, a post-globalization era defined by protectionism, changing trade relationships, and emerging technologies like AI.

Participants are tasked with forecasting which countries, sectors, or communities will be most affected and identifying risks policymakers must consider.

Top 100 entries will be reviewed by Bridgewater’s senior investors, with the top five receiving $25,000 each.

Winners will also be considered for internship or employment opportunities at the hedge fund, pending interviews.

“As we live through one of the most significant paradigm shifts of our lifetimes, Bridgewater is more dedicated than ever to understand the impact it will have on markets and economies,” said Nir Bar Dea, CEO of Bridgewater Associates.

“Together with Global Citizen, we are looking for the brightest minds across the world to contribute their understanding of the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.”

“The world is entering a new era – defined by shifting alliances, disruptive technologies, and evolving global power structures,” added Hugh Evans, CEO of Global Citizen.

“With Forecasting the Future, we’re inviting bold, data-driven ideas from around the world – because the next breakthrough insight can come from anyone, anywhere.”
