Aiyedatiwa to Ondo Children: We’ll give you a voice, protect your future

The Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to promoting the rights and welfare of children across the state. He pledged to continue implementing policies that protect children and empower them to thrive in a society free from fear, intimidation, and discrimination.

Governor Aiyedatiwa made this known while addressing school children, teachers, parents, and dignitaries at the 2025 National Children’s Day celebration held in Akure. The event was organized by the Special Adviser on Women Affairs, Dr. Seun Osamaye.

Describing Children’s Day as more than a celebration, the governor said it is “a solemn moment of reflection and responsibility.” He emphasized the importance of recognizing the value of children and the collective duty to safeguard and uplift them.

This year’s theme, “Stand Up, Speak Up: Building a Bullying-Free Generation,” was described by the governor as a powerful call to action. He noted that it requires a united stand against all forms of bullying and abuse, especially in schools and online spaces where children are most vulnerable.

“This year’s theme is a patriotic command,” Aiyedatiwa stated. “It calls on every one of us to take responsibility and stand against the scourge of bullying. It challenges us to create a society that is safe, inclusive, and free from any form of intimidation or abuse.”

He stressed that bullying—whether in schools, on playgrounds, or online—is a threat to children’s confidence and emotional well-being. “It erodes their self-worth and stifles their dreams. But today, and every day forward, Ondo State says: No more!”

The governor called on parents, teachers, traditional rulers, religious institutions, and community leaders to work together to foster a culture of kindness, empathy, and support.

During the event, Aiyedatiwa inaugurated the 3rd Ondo State Children’s Parliament and celebrated the courage and resilience of children across the state. He urged them to be leaders in kindness and mutual support.

He also commended the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development and all stakeholders for their commitment to child protection and the success of the 2025 Children’s Day celebration.

In her welcome address, Dr. Seun Osamaye appreciated the governor for his unwavering dedication to the welfare of women and children in the state. She highlighted the administration’s efforts toward inclusiveness, gender equality, and sustainable support for children.

“Our commitment to the growth and development of children is evident in the OUR EASE Agenda of inclusive governance,” Osamaye said. “This year’s celebration introduced new innovations, distinguishing it from previous editions. From educational support to child protection programs, the governor has consistently placed children at the heart of governance.”

Also delivering a goodwill message, the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye, commended Governor Aiyedatiwa for prioritizing education and reducing the state’s debt burden, both of which are clearly reflected in his OUR EASE Agenda.

Poroye Olamide, a representative of the Ondo State Children’s Parliament, thanked the governor for giving children a voice and a platform for self-expression. She called for continued collaboration to eradicate all forms of child abuse and harassment.

The celebration featured a variety of educational and entertaining activities, including an oratory competition, match-past, cultural displays, and the KidsCon Raffle Draw. Winners in different categories were honored with “Lucky Star” prizes, presented personally by the governor.
