The Akwa Ibom State Police Command successfully foiled a planned kidnapping of key personnel in Eket Local Government Area following credible intelligence.
Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, disclosed this in a statement released on Thursday in Uyo, confirming the arrest of six suspected kidnappers, including a female suspect from Cameroon.
John stated: “Following credible information regarding a planned kidnapping targeting key personnel in Eket, a coordinated operation led to the apprehension of six suspected kidnappers.”
Details of the Operation: Acting on the intelligence, police operatives mobilized swiftly, leading to the arrest of Joseph Alafia in Oron Town on May 6, 2025.
This initial arrest triggered raids in Afia Nsit Eket, resulting in the capture of: Oyibo Ayibakumo Brown, male, from Bayelsa State, Wisdom Harry, male, from Rivers State, Afanye Igonikon, male, from Rivers State
Dare Olaniyi, male, from Ogun State, residing at Enugu Waterside, Port Harcourt, Rivers State. Tita Mercy Masume, female, from Cameroon
Items Recovered: A Lexus RX 300 vehicle with plate number KMR 491 AE, gray and ash in color, suspected to be used for kidnapping activities.
The Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, commended the vigilance and swift action of the police officers, praising the successful operation.
John further stated: “The Command reiterates its commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety and security of all residents of Akwa Ibom State.”
