Transforming Ikpoba Okha LGA: A New Era of Inclusive Development Through EDSOGPADEC

Transforming Ikpoba Okha LGA: A New Era of Inclusive Development Through EDSOGPADEC

By Hon. Felix Osaze Igbinovia

In every season of a people’s history, there arises a moment when the path to transformation becomes undeniably clear. For Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area, that moment is now. Through the renewed energy and vision of the Edo State Oil and Gas Producing Areas Development Commission (EDSOGPADEC), we are witnessing a deliberate effort to rewrite the narrative of neglect, underdevelopment, and marginalization. As the representative of Ikpoba Okha, I am humbled to be a vessel in this transformation.

Ikpoba Okha is rich in human potential, yet our people have long battled systemic challenges — from poor infrastructure and environmental degradation to youth unemployment and lack of access to quality education. EDSOGPADEC was created as a solution to these very problems. It is not just a government body; it is a people-centered mechanism designed to channel the dividends of oil production back to the communities that bear the brunt of its impact. But to make this promise real, we must lead with vision, integrity, and commitment.

In line with this, I wish to express profound gratitude to His Excellency, Governor Monday Okpebholo, whose leadership has breathed fresh life into the development agenda of our dear state. His passion for grassroots impact and inclusive governance has inspired those of us in public service to do more — not for political applause, but for the people who entrusted us with their mandate. Under his guidance, we have seen a revitalization of EDSOGPADEC’s mission and a renewed urgency to deliver on the commission’s core objectives.

One of the major strides in Ikpoba Okha is the execution of over sixty developmental projects in just the past year — an unprecedented achievement that reflects the power of purposeful governance. From road construction and school renovations to borehole installations and youth skill centers, these projects are touching lives directly and creating ripple effects in local economies. These are not just structures; they are symbols of hope.

But we cannot stop here.
Our vision for Ikpoba Okha is bold. We are working towards a future where every child has access to quality education, where our youth are empowered with skills for the 21st-century economy, and where our roads, health centers, and marketplaces reflect the dignity of the people they serve. We are investing in clean energy projects, sanitation programs, and small business support schemes — all anchored on community feedback and inclusion.

Most importantly, we are listening. Development cannot be imposed from the top; it must emerge from the lived realities of the people. That is why we are engaging town unions, youth groups, market women, and traditional institutions in shaping our development agenda. Your voices matter, and your needs will define our next steps.
As we journey forward, I call on every stakeholder — from civil society to the private sector — to partner with us. Ikpoba Okha must become a model of what is possible when government and the governed work together. The oil in our soil must translate to opportunities for our children, security for our families, and pride in our communities.

Governor Okpebholo has set the tone for transformation. It is now our duty to match his bold vision with real, on-the-ground results. I am confident that with unity of purpose, transparency, and relentless effort, we will make Ikpoba the pride of Edo State.

Let us rise to the occasion. Our time is now.
