…Laud Otuaro for Peace Efforts
By Chancel Bomadi Sunday
BOMADI—Ex-militants from the Third Phase of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) have formed the Third Phase Peace and Reconciliation Committee (TPPRC) to mediate and unify the various factions within the phase.
The leaders, who gathered in Bomadi, Delta State, on Friday, took decisive steps towards fostering unity and progress within a phase currently fragmented by multiple factional leaders.
The reconciliation meeting, led by the pioneer national chairman of the phase, General Julius Joseph, aimed to resolve the underlying causes of division and bring all factions together as one body.
General Joseph emphasized the need for unity, stating that the parallel factions had hindered the phase’s smooth operation. He urged all members to embrace peace and unity, essential for progress.
“Since Kingsley Kuku’s departure, we have been running parallel elections with various factional executives. It’s time to put our house in order and move forward,” General Joseph said.
The meeting was convened by Dr. Dennis Otuaro, the Administrator of the programme, who recognized the disunity upon taking office and tasked Joseph with leading the reconciliation efforts. Joseph commended Otuaro for his efforts to address past administrative shortcomings.
A 50-member Peace and Reconciliation Committee was formed, with General Henry Gomeromo as chairman, Asenekiri Oyile as vice chairman, and General Para Ekiyes as secretary. The committee’s first task is to mediate between the factions and facilitate dialogue to address unresolved issues.
General Gomeromo, speaking to the press, stated that the committee’s first action would be a closed-door meeting, followed by a roundtable discussion with factional leaders to resolve disputes amicably.
General Ekiyes, the committee’s secretary, shared his decision to join the peace process, believing that unity would help them achieve their goals. He thanked Dr. Otuaro for his efforts in bringing them together.
The committee’s efforts are seen as a crucial step toward uniting the Third Phase ex-militants for future progress and cooperation.
