How Lady Christy Ray Okoye is restoring joy to widows, needy at Easter

An entrepreneur and devout philanthropist, Christy Ray Okoye, has, over the years, put smiles on the faces of underprivileged women and children through the distribution of alms such as cash and foodstuffs during festive periods, especially Easter and Christmas.

For over 30 years, her non-governmental organisation, Christy Ray Okoye Foundation, CROF, has been a bastion of succour and help to the downtrodden in her local community with the most recent been an outreach for vulnerable women at the Foursquare Gospel Church Hall, Agidingbi, Ikeja, Lagos aimed at cushioning the effects of the ongoing economic hardship.

Particularly, her name has become synonymous with the empowerment of the underprivileged in Ifite Dunu, Anambra State, and environs. This zeal of compassion through her humanitarian initiative that came into existence over 20 years ago earned her the title of Ambassador last December, and she is now recognised officially as Ambassador Christy Ray Okoye (nee Ikeotuonye).

A recipient of many awards, Ambassador Christy Ray Okoye has been involved in several collaborative efforts with like-minded individuals and organisations over the years to alleviate the suffering of widows.
As is the norm for her, this Easter season, in commemoration of the redemptive suffering of Christ Jesus, CROF is collaborating with Women Aligned for Growth, WAG, and WACIN to celebrate vulnerable women in society.

In a recent encounter with Vanguard, she noted that her driving force is the acute shortage of genuine philanthropists in a land, where presently many are bereft of meaningful help.

A woman of deep spiritual persuasion, Lady Christy, known for her largesse, generosity of heart and philanthropy, disclosed that she was inspired by the exemplary feats of the iconic Mother Teresa of Calcutta, India.

So great was her drive and influence that, in recognition of her outreaches, the appellation “Ojiefiemeogo” (roughly translates as someone who gives whole cows), was added to her name.
