NSUKKA — Retired Area Commander of the Nigeria Police Force, Nsukka Area Command, Hassan Yahaya, on Monday advised serving police officers to shun money-consciousness and uphold integrity and dedication in the discharge of their duties.
Delivering his retirement message, Yahaya urged officers to maintain peace, obey lawful orders, and steer clear of corrupt practices, noting that the public appreciates sincere service.
“They should be fair, transparent, and just. I want them to avoid any form of corruption. People will always appreciate them after a job well done, but it would be wrong to prioritize money above service,” he said.
Reflecting on his career, he described policing as a challenging but rewarding task. “The job is tasking and demanding, but with patience and tolerance, one can overcome the hurdles,” he added.
Yahaya, a native of Ankpa in Kogi State, retired from the Force on April 2, 2025, after 35 years of meritorious service.
In a tribute, the Chairman of the Enugu State Traditional Rulers’ Council, HRM Igwe Ikechukwu Asadu (Ogadagidi), praised Yahaya as a bridge-builder who served selflessly.
Igwe Asadu—also the Traditional Ruler of Edem Ani Ogwugwu Ancient Kingdom in Nsukka LGA, and a member of the Board of Trustees, Council of Traditional Leaders of Africa (Nigeria Chapter)—said Yahaya’s retirement is coming at a time when his leadership is greatly needed due to rising insecurity in the country.
“We appreciate his service to the nation and to the people of Nsukka, where he served as Area Commander. He treated his subordinates with respect and dignity. I wish him success in his future endeavours and hope his successor will be as capable, if not more,” he said.
Other stakeholders also hailed Yahaya’s tenure as exemplary, describing his stewardship in the Nsukka Area Command as one marked by dedication, professionalism, and positive impact.
