The Ahmadiyya Muslim Youths Organisation has stressed the need for Muslims parents, associations to focus on raising morally-discipline youth, describing the rate of social vices young people as worrisome.
Speaking at the opening of the 51st Ijtema of the youth group, under the aegis of Majlis Khuddamul Ahmadiyya Nigeria, the acting President, Mr Idris Oluwamayowa said association hold it a duty to nurture a morally sound youth for national development.
According to him, the organisation understand the importance of family to a morally sound society, hence, its stratification into organs in line with age with a view to ensuring nurturing God-fearing individuals for the benefit of the society.
“The rate of crime among Muslim youths is disturbing and must be tackled headlong. Our position is to urge parents, guardians to toe the path of the Ahmadiyya Movement in the effort to raise a discipline youth for the society. Government cannot do that alone.
“We must realise that crime thrive from the corner of each room in the society, hence, as a family, we must be conscious of how we mentor our children in the interest of the larger society. At AMYO, we stick to the principle of “A nation cannot be formed without the reformation of the youth”.
Speaking on the 51st Ijtema activities, he said, the event will kickstart with a free medical checkup for residents of Ede at the palace of Timi with a lecture later in the day, themed, “Power, People, and Piety: Islamic Principles for Establishing Social Justice and Promoting Shared Prosperity.”
“Our national development and responsibility session would feature key sessions with focus on leadership, education, entrepreneurship, and skill acquisition, with the aim of developing youth as self-reliant and nation-building agents.
“The Ijtema is also a platform for promoting unity, cultural exchange, and brotherhood among youths from across Nigeria and beyond.
“We are pleased to announce that this year, we are expecting the attendance of delegates from several countries, including Benin Republic, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Kenya, and others, in a well-structured and coordinated manner”, he added.
