The Dein of Agbor Kingdom, HRM Dr. Benjamin Ikenchuku, Keagborekuzi I, has been appealed to complete his coronation as well as perform his traditional roles.
The Concerned Agbor Citizens (CAC) said this at a press conference yesterday in Agbor.
The group said, ” Chief Sunday Obuseh, who is one of the kingmakers in the ancient kingdom, repeatedly said the king refused to complete his coronation process as he was symbolically crowned with mere placement of cap on his head. This was done when he was less than three years old. At that tender age he could not take the mandatory oaths. As he attained adult, he refused to take the oaths and other traditional rites to culminate the coronation processes.”
The group said despite the huge investment by Agbor people to build several apartments in the palace and financial support provided for the king, he has refused to sit on the throne and bring his wife, stressing that his repudiation to marry in line with royal process with a view to producing heir to the throne will create challenges in the dynasty in the future.
According to Mr. Echi Obue, the chairman of the group while addressing journalists, said instead of the king to put in place process to respond the perennial issues raised by his subjects, resorted to intimidation and grandstanding, adding that the Agbor people were ready to sustain the agitation to protect and project the rich cultures and values of the kingdom.
” We will not be intimidated by our King. We are not asking for the moon. We are asking him to learn our language. We are asking him to dress like our king. It is the same tradition that made him the king . We will not allow him to choose the aspect of the tradition to protect. It is the duty of us all if there is any need for review”.
