Advisory committee reviews framework components for National Web Design Standards

By Kenneth Oboh

The Advisory Committee for the National Web Design Standard (NWDS) met this week to review progress on the Federal Government’s initiative to establish unified design, accessibility, and governance standards for public-sector digital platforms. The session, convened by the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, brought together committee members assigned to different components of the emerging framework.

During the meeting, Joshua Aaron led the specialist sessions on Data Governance and System Architecture, offering practical recommendations on workflow structuring, information architecture, and interoperability to support consistent implementation across federal digital services. His contribution formed part of the committee’s technical review of the framework.

Other members of the Advisory Committee also shared insights within their respective domains, including user experience, accessibility, interface design, and operational alignment, each providing expert guidance rooted in their sector experience. Their collective input helped refine the developing standards and strengthen the practicality of the guidelines being prepared for national adoption.

A cross-committee review followed, enabling all members to align overlapping requirements and consolidate recommendations. This collaborative approach supported the creation of a clearer, more integrated national framework.

Officials from the Ministry emphasised that the NWDS initiative aims to improve accessibility, interoperability, and consistency across government websites and digital services. Inputs from the committee continue to shape a technically robust and implementation-ready standard capable of supporting nationwide digital transformation goals.

The committee will continue its review and validation cycle as work progresses toward full rollout.
