Food Security Boost: Ashiru visits Obasanjo

The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Ogun-Oshun River Basin Development Authority  (OORBDA), Engr. Dr. Adedeji Ashiru FNSE FNIMechE FNIWE, on Thursday paid a courtesy call on former President Olusegun Obasanjo,in Abeokuta, Ogun State, where discussions centered on the pivotal role of water resource management, with a specific focus on ensuring food security in Nigeria.

During the visit, Ashiru shared his vision for transforming the OORBDA headquarters into a world-class tourist centre going forward, “This ambitious project aims to create a global attraction, showcasing the beauty and potential of Nigeria’s natural resources. “Notably, our headquarters occupies an impressive land mass of over 500 acres, providing ample space for development,” he stated.

While welcoming Ashiru and his team, Obasanjo expressed his desire to see the Nation become self- sufficient in the area of food production, ” We can  grow what we eat and the vision to make Nigeria self-sufficient in food production led to the establishment of  the River Basin Development Authorities.”

He was also elated to see the agricultural produce the Authority presented including fish, eggs, garri and packaged water. 

He urged the Authority to do more to boost food security and ensure that the potentials of all the project sites are fully harnessed. 

Espousing more on the laudable initiatives the Authority is putting in place to make its headquarters an agricultural cum tourism hub to attract both foreign and local earnings through agro tourism, Ashiru noted there’s need to harness the hydropower generation potentials of the Oyan Dam among others. He also used the opportunity to invite Obasanjo to the 2025 World Water Day celebration coming up today (Saturday).
