As part of the 69th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69), global leaders, policymakers, and advocates gathered at Nigeria House, New York, for a high-level event hosted by Silver Lining for the Needy Initiative (SLNI).
The session, titled “From Declaration to Action: Evidence, Progress, and Gaps,” provided a platform to assess progress on gender equality and outline urgent steps needed to turn commitments into real-world impact.
In her opening remarks, Ms. Hauwa Abbas, Convener and President of SLNI, emphasized the importance of moving beyond promises. “Real change happens when we shift from commitments to practical solutions in health, education, and women’s empowerment. Our goal is to dismantle barriers and create a future where every woman can reach her full potential,” she stated.
The session featured lively discussions and solution-driven engagement. Cynthia Amaka, representative of the United Nations Association of Nigeria, praised the event: “I have attended many sessions at CSW69, but this one was truly unique, engaging, impactful, and deeply educative. The SLNI team did a phenomenal job.”
One of the speakers at the event. Mr. Anil Wasif highlighted the event’s interactive format: “The seamless exchange between panelists and participants made our discussions not just insightful but actionable. This wasn’t just a dialogue; it was a roadmap for real change.”
Closing the session, Mrs. Ezeala, Director of POWER Foundation, called for urgent action. “We need gender-responsive policies, strong partnerships, and investments in education, technology, and health. The time for talk is over—it’s time to implement real solutions.”
Reflecting on the impact of the discussions, Ms. Abbas reaffirmed SLNI’s commitment to sustaining the momentum beyond CSW69. “Gender equality requires action, not just conversation. The insights and commitments shared today will drive meaningful change in our communities.”
SLNI remains dedicated to advancing gender-responsive policies, education, health, and empowerment initiatives and invites stakeholders to join its ongoing efforts.
