Love is a beautiful thing that should be celebrated every day, but Valentine’s Day, which is celebrated every February 14, stands out as a day dedicated to love.
The much awaited day of love, which is all about romance, chocolates, roses, and, of course, serving the perfect red-hot look was marked yesterday, and the celebration continues today. On this day, couples and lovers express their love for each other in a unique way, by ensuring that the day is memorable for their partner.
However, a day after the celebration, Nollywood damsels here share their thoughts on the making of the special day for love and why some people are not enthusiastic about the celebration.
No love again in our time – Prittican Yakubu
Fast-rising actress Prittican believes in love, but doubts if there is true love again. Sharing her thoughts on Valentine day, Prittican said the day means a lot to her, even though there’s no love again in their time. “No love again in our time…Guys, this day, are just looking for who to chop, They will say baby I want to settle down, all in the name of trying to chop you. I don’t even have that time. So, I will be at the gym helping my condition to look good and fit. Valentine Day means a lot to me, by loving myself and not letting anyone take me or my respect for granted,” she said.
I am single, I didn’t have any special plan for the day – Nsisong Daniel
Nsisong Daniel, who hails from Akwa-Ibom state, but plying her trade in Asaba as an actress, is not enthusiastic about Valentine Day. For her, Val’s Day is not limited to just couples or lovers as she promised to show love to her family and everyone around as a single lady. “Nigerian economy is affecting everything, even Christmas was celebrated on a low key by some people. Valentine’s Day is “Lover’s Day”, a day where affection is expressed via gifts, greetings and fun-fare. I am single, so I didn’t have any special plans for the day. Val’s Day is not limited to just couples or lovers. I tried in my own little way to show love to my family and everyone around me,” Nsisong said
Valentine’s Day is a day to celebrate not just romantic love— Joan Johnson
For actress Joan Johnson, “Valentine’s Day is a day to celebrate not just romantic love, but also, the bonds we share with friends and family. It’s such a lovely opportunity to reflect on the meaning of love and connection in our lives. It’s also a time to express gratitude for the people who support us and bring joy to our lives. Whether it’s through thoughtful gifts, kind words, or spending quality time together, the essence of the day is about making others feel valued and appreciated.
As for the economic hardship affecting the country, I do think it might have an impact on how people choose to celebrate. With financial constraints, some might opt for more creative and budget-friendly ways to show their affection. Instead of lavish dinners or expensive gifts, people might focus on heartfelt gestures, like cooking a special meal at home, writing love letters, or planning a cozy get-together with friends. Often, it’s the thought and effort behind the gesture that truly counts, and during tough times, those simple acts of love can be even more meaningful”.
