John David, CEO of Data Addict and a US Army veteran, has outlined strategic measures Nigeria must adopt to strengthen its cybersecurity in the face of rising cyber threats.

In an exclusive interview, David emphasized the urgent need for robust cybersecurity laws, increased public awareness, and investment in local talent to protect Nigeria’s digital landscape.

With cybercrimes such as phishing, ransomware, and data breaches on the rise, Nigeria’s digital economy faces increasing risks. David called for stricter penalties for cybercriminals and the development of a comprehensive legal framework to encourage proactive cybersecurity practices. He also stressed the importance of public education on safe online behaviors to combat social engineering attacks.

He urged businesses to prioritize cybersecurity by adopting advanced security measures, including multi-factor authentication and end-to-end encryption. Additionally, he advocated for collaboration between the Nigerian government, the private sector, and international cybersecurity organizations to combat global cyber threats effectively.

Highlighting the need to nurture local talent, David recommended investing in cybersecurity education and supporting indigenous startups. He believes that locally developed solutions can better address Nigeria’s unique cybersecurity challenges.
