Ade Lawal’s journey from a young tech enthusiast in Lagos to a thriving global tech professional in the UK is a testament to the power of mentorship, resilience, and the right opportunities. His transformation was fueled by the innovative programs at Bincom Dev Center, a leading tech talent development hub committed to bridging local talent with global opportunities.
Modest Beginning
Ade’s story began over a decade ago when he joined Bincom Dev Center as a software engineering intern while still a university student. Recalling his early days during an eMigr8 Open Day webinar, he shared: “The internship lasted only six months, but it exposed me to the fintech industry in ways I never imagined. The relationships I built during that time later became pivotal in my career.”
This brief, yet impactful internship opened doors for Ade, leading him into software engineering and later, product management, where he seamlessly blended technical expertise with strategic business insights.
Global Stage
Determined to compete on a global level, Ade said he returned to Bincom Dev Center to participate in its Global Tech Program, a structured initiative designed to equip local talents with skills, mentorship, and networks to access international career opportunities. The program’s flexible schedule allowed him to sharpen his product management skills while maintaining a full-time job.
“The Global Tech Program refined my skills, connected me with like-minded professionals, and gave me the confidence to explore global opportunities,” he said.
Building Innovation Through LABS by Bincom
Beyond technical training, Ade immersed himself in LABS by Bincom, an incubation program designed to help tech professionals develop and launch innovative solutions. Through this initiative, he gained resilience, leadership experience, and real-world problem-solving skills, which prepared him for the demands of a global career.
From Nigeria to the UK
Equipped with expertise, confidence, and a strong support system, Ade applied for the UK’s Global Tech Talent Visa through Bincom’s eMigr8 Tech Visa platform. Although his first attempt was unsuccessful, he persevered—with mentorship from Bade Adesemowo, his eMigr8 coach—and secured the visa on his second try.
Since relocating to the UK, Ade has successfully adapted to a new cultural and professional environment. One of his biggest lessons is adapting his profile to highlight impact and achievements, a crucial strategy for securing roles in the UK tech industry.
What aspiring tech pros should know
Ade shares two key pieces of advice for tech professionals:
For beginners: Treat your career like a marathon. “Set milestones, enjoy the process, and engage with supportive communities like eMigr8.”
For experienced professionals: Seek mentorship and actively participate in professional networks. “No matter how skilled you are, having the right support makes success inevitable.
“Throughout my journey, Bincom Dev Center has played a crucial role, providing mentorship, technical and soft skills training, and an entrepreneurial mindset. The center’s programs are designed for global readiness, ensuring that talents like me can confidently step into international markets,” Ade added.
