Security: Lions Int’l Clubs, Maryland mulls creation of Lagos food bank

Lions International Clubs has disclosed plans to build a Lagos Food Bank in boosting sufficiency and security in the state’s agriculture eco-system.

This was disclosed at the weekend, during the Pediatric Cancer Awareness and distribution of educational items, orgianzed by Maryland Golden, Lagos British and Lagos Indiana Lions Clubs, Zone 6C, District 404B2 Nigeria, held at Bola Memorial Primary School, Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, Ikeja, Lagos.

Lion Tolu Senbanjo, while addressing the media explained, “We decided to share love. We have partnered to donate educational materials to celebrate love, offer free medical check-ups to pupils.”

Speaking on future projects, Senbanjo revealed, “We are known for service, we will continue to serve.

“We have eight global courses; we have vision, diabetes, hunger relief, youths’ empowerment, pediatric cancer, humanitarian efforts, environment, and disaster relief. We will not relent to serve.

“Our core project is to build food bank in Lagos. We will continue to push till we achieve that in the nearest future.”

Chattered President, Maryland Golden Lions Club, Lion Enitan Hassan, said, “This is an inaugural project for Lagos British, Lagos Indiana, is a club in United Kingdom.

“We are doing this ton sensitise our members because a lot of new members precisely, they really do not know what Lions Club stands for. Before they start getting erroneous impression that it is a social club.

“We need to clear up that impression. We have chosen this school because this is my own jurisdiction, to serve Maryland and environs.

“We chose this school because we see they have special students here.

“We will like to do more than this, regarding their special needs. It’s an awareness program.

“We donated school bags, stationeries, water bottles, mathematical sets, mugs, among other learning materials.”

Lion Adedeji Olupokun, Zone 6C, Chairman, comprises of, Lagos Indiana, Lagos Shinning Star, Lagos British, and Maryland Golden Lions Clubs, said, “What we have come here to do is a joint projects. First one is Pediatric Cancer awareness, one of the global focus areas of Lions.

“We have come to sensitise pupils, teachers and staff of the school and Lions’ members to get more understanding and do more about this ailment and most especially to get early detection to save lives. That’s what we do at Lions Clubs. That’s why we have set this campaign aside.

“Another part is the donation of educational materials. We look out for the needy in the society. One of the things we do importantly is to support education with educational materials and pursuits.”
