Acclaimed Nigerian journalist and poet Seunmanuel Faleye will release a provocative new poetry collection addressing his nation’s most pressing issues, publishers announced today.
“If I Were My Country’s President,” published by Africa Literature Trust Fund, hits shelves March 1 and offers both critique and vision for Nigeria’s future.
The collection examines governance failures, social inequities, economic challenges, and national identity through Faleye’s distinctive poetic voice. Each poem presents both unflinching analysis and potential solutions to Nigeria’s complex problems.
“Poetry has always been a powerful tool for driving social change,” Faleye said in a statement. “Through these verses, I’m not just shining a light on our struggles—I’m inspiring readers to imagine a Nigeria led by purposeful action and driven by visionary leadership.”
Senator Otunba Engr. Gbenga Daniel, former Governor of Ogun State, contributed the foreword, calling the work “a manifesto for national introspection and renewal.”
Faleye plans a three-country pan-African tour beginning in April, featuring readings, workshops, and community discussions. The tour aims to connect literary communities across the continent and foster dialogue about shared challenges.
