Olurotimi Otedola grabs spotlight, N3.2b richer

Olurotimi Otedola grabs spotlight, N3.2b richer

When Otedola’s name is mentioned, the first thing that comes to mind is billionaire businessman, Femi Otedola.

Other names that come to mind are former Lagos Governor, Sir Michael Otedola, Lady Doja Otedola, and Florence Otedola, aka, DJ Cuppy.

Little is known about Olurotimi Otedola, Doja’s and Michael’s third son, and Femi’s brother. Well, Olurotimi has sold his shares in Geregu Power Plc worth N4.6 billion – netting a whopping gain of N3.2 billion. He had acquired the shares at N789.8 million about two years ago.

These details were revealed in a filing with the Nigerian Stock Exchange. The filing, signed by Company Secretary Akinleye Olagbende, showed that Olurotimi sold about four million shares at a price of N1,150 per share on February 6, 2025.

This sale marks a significant move in his investment portfolio, amounting to a total of N4.6 billion. Over the past two years, his investment has appreciated by N3.8 billion, reflecting substantial growth in Geregu’s stock value. The sale comes at a time when Geregu Power Plc is experiencing laudable growth in its financial performance. The company recently released its 2024 full-year audited financial account which showed a significant 69.5% increase in pre-tax profit, rising to N41.2 billion.  The company’s post-tax profit also surged, growing by 71% to N27.4 billion. Olurotimi is into music and is the founder of the Afrinero Music Band and gave a good account of himself as an entertainer during the 90th birthday celebration of their mother in 2022. His performance indicated that music runs in the family. When Femi’s two daughters – DJ Cuppy and Tolani – turned to music, many did not understand where they got their interest from.
