De Genius Academy was abuzz with energy and excitement as it hosted its highly anticipated biannual inter-house sports competition, bringing together students, teachers, and parents for a day of intense competition and celebration of athletic excellence.
The event featured a dynamic display of sportsmanship, teamwork, and physical prowess, with students competing in various track and field events, calisthenics, and other physical challenges. At the end of the competition, outstanding participants were recognized and awarded for their exceptional performances.
Speaking on the significance of the event, the school’s proprietor, Desmond Aiyenuro, underscored the importance of sports in holistic education, emphasizing its role in shaping students both physically and mentally.
“Sports are not just an extracurricular activity; they are an essential part of a child’s development. It teaches discipline, resilience, and teamwork, values that are crucial for success in life,” Aiyenuro said.
He further explained that the inter-house sports competition is an extension of the school’s weekly sporting activities, designed to cultivate hard work and perseverance among students. Encouraging other institutions to prioritize sports, he stressed that physical activities should not be seen merely as competitions but as a lifelong commitment that prepares students for future challenges.
The competition drew commendations from Patrons of the school’s houses, who praised the event’s organization and highlighted its positive impact on the students. They noted that engaging young learners in sports helps to channel their energy into productive endeavors, keeping them away from negative societal influences while fostering teamwork and social development.
Beyond the immediate excitement of the competition, the patrons used the platform to call on the government to increase investment in primary and secondary school sports programs. They emphasized that financial support, infrastructural development, and structured talent-nurturing initiatives are essential to identifying and grooming future sports champions.
“If we want to see Nigerian athletes competing at the global level, we must start investing in them from an early age. Schools like De Genius Academy are already taking the lead, but more government backing is needed to provide proper facilities and training opportunities,” one patron stated.
The De Genius Academy Inter-House Sports Competition once again reaffirmed the school’s commitment to producing well-rounded individuals. As cheers and celebrations filled the air, the message was clear, sports and education are inseparable in the journey to grooming future leaders and champions.
