In a significant move to enhance access to higher education, BYU-Pathway Worldwide has inaugurated a state-of-the-art Global Education Centre in Lagos, catering to the increasing demand for online courses from BYU-Idaho and Ensign College.

The centre reflects a commitment to providing spiritually-based, accredited education at affordable prices, making it accessible to students in Nigeria and beyond.
With over 74,000 students enrolled from more than 180 countries, BYU-Pathway Worldwide seeks to democratize education, allowing individuals to earn accredited degrees online within three years. In Nigeria, the total cost of this quality education is an astonishingly low NGN379,579. This initiative aligns with the mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which actively supports educational opportunities by investing over $1 billion annually in initiatives that empower the younger generation.
At the launch event in Opebi, Ikeja, Elder D. Todd Christofferson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles emphasised the Church’s dedication to increasing access to education. He highlighted the challenge of establishing physical universities in every desired location and reiterated the importance of affordable online education as a solution. “We are thrilled to expand opportunities for the younger generation. My experiences in Africa confirm that, given the right opportunities, Africans are intelligent, hardworking, and disciplined,” he remarked.
Brian K. Ashton, President of BYU-Pathway Worldwide, highlighted that this educational initiative is designed to bless lives rather than generate profit. He noted that the fees are heavily subsidised, with scholarships available that can reduce tuition costs by almost 50%. “The best part is that this opportunity is open to everyone, not just members of the Church. We believe that as we learn the truth, we become more like our Father Jesus Christ,” Ashton stated.
The Global Education Centre is not just focused on academic achievement; it is also dedicated to comprehensive personal growth. Elder Adeyinka A. Ojediran, 1st Counselor of the Africa West Area Presidency, articulated the centre’s mission to help young individuals grow spiritually, socially, emotionally, and professionally. “We aim to develop leaders who can positively impact their communities. Knowledge is a precious attribute that cannot be taken away, and we strive to support our rising generation in achieving it,” he added.
Meanwhile, according to the institution management, the Lagos Global Education Centre stand as a testament to BYU-Pathway Worldwide’s unwavering commitment to providing affordable educational opportunities and fostering the development of future leaders who will serve their communities and beyond.
