The National President of the Association of Ex-Local Government Chairmen of Nigeria (ASELGON), Hon. Albert Asipa, has affirmed that the association has a significant role to play in advancing Nigeria’s democratic development.
Speaking at the virtual inauguration ceremony of ASELGON’s Media and Publicity Committee on Wednesday, Hon. Asipa highlighted the wealth of experience within the association’s membership. He urged members to recognize their unique responsibility and remain available to contribute to the nation’s democratic growth when called upon.
“As former local government chairmen, our collective experience is invaluable. We must be conscious of this responsibility and be ready to offer our expertise in fostering democracy,” said Asipa, who previously served as Chairman of Imeko/Afon Local Government in Ogun State.
He emphasized that the newly inaugurated committee members were carefully chosen due to their integrity, dedication, and commitment to the association’s ideals. He expressed confidence in their ability to effectively project ASELGON’s activities and values.
Responding on behalf of the committee, its chairman, Hon. Frank Ilaboya, praised the ASELGON leadership for the initiative, describing it as “progressive and visionary.” Ilaboya, a former local government chairman himself, acknowledged the importance of media in shaping public perception and pledged to uphold the association’s image both locally and internationally.
“I salute the President’s sincerity of purpose in selecting this committee. On behalf of my team, I assure you that we will work diligently to reflect ASELGON’s mission to the world,” Ilaboya stated.
Other members of the newly inaugurated Media and Publicity Committee include Hons. Bode Agbeleye (Vice Chairman), Iro Njobali, Oliver Wubon, Destiny Enabulele, Bako Zamwawozayi, and the association’s Media Consultant, Mr. Oladele Ogunsola.
The inauguration underscores ASELGON’s commitment to fostering democratic values and leveraging the expertise of its members to enhance governance in Nigeria.
