BENIN CITY – THE Igarra Development Association (IDA) has called on its members to prioritise unity among themselves which it said was the surest way of achieving the development of Igarra in Akoko-Edo local government area, the major reason for forming the organization.

The president of the association, Dr Dele Yaya made this call during the association’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held recently in Igarra where he advised that family sentiments which has been one of the challenges bedeviling the community be relegated to the background in the association’s activities.

According to him, the IDA was founded with the understanding that, “despite our diverse family backgrounds, we are one people, Etuno people. While we may sometimes hold differing views on certain community matters, we share an overwhelming desire for the growth and progress of Igarra. In our community, we live in neighborhoods that embrace all families and even non-natives. This interconnectedness underscores an undeniable truth that every positive development in Igarra benefits us all, regardless of family group affiliations.

“In every organization, occasional disagreements are inevitable. Some of these disagreements can be constructive, driving growth and improvement. However, others may be unnecessary, stemming from negative motives. It is important that we refrain from overemphasizing such disagreements in ways that harm the peaceful coexistence that defines our community.

“I admonish every member of IDA to rise above family affiliations and embrace the shared goal of contributing to the development and prosperity of Igarra. This enduring commitment to unity and progress should define the core values of IDA membership. Let us all remain steadfast in our dedication to building a brighter future for Igarra.”

During the AGM, Dr. Yaya listed some of the achievements in the last one year to include the review of IDA Constitution and reactivation of the registration with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).

“Various projects were embarked upon including: the various projects in the General Hospital, Igarra; construction of white boards in 40 classrooms in public schools; inter-schools competition held from 2nd to 23rd December, 2024; farming innovation workshops.

“Introducing the IDA Newsletter, publishing three editions so far. The third edition will be unveiled today at this meeting. Production of a detailed Financial Report for the Association from inception to date. Introducing online registration of members.
