ABUJA – AS socioeconomic challenges escalate across the country, the Homeless Advocacy Project and the Don Bosco Foundation have partnered and demanded urgent attention and intervention for thousands of homeless youths across the country.
In statement made available to Vanguard, the thrust of the partnership between the two organisations is basically to address the plight of homeless youths in Nigeria and amplifying their voices to inspire transformative societal change.
Meanwhile, the partnership underscores a shared commitment to restoring dignity and purpose to youths who have been marginalized and unfairly judged due to their circumstances.
The Homeless Advocacy Project (THAP), a social initiative founded by a group of students from the School of Media and Communication, Pan Atlantic University- —Mololuwa Rachael Olabode, Lois Fofah, Aderinola Gbalajobi, Roli Eluwa, Bayem Carlton Okwudili, and Ngozika Oranye-, has formed a partnership with the Don Bosco Foundation in a bid to combat homelessness among youth in Nigeria.
This collaboration aims to give homeless youths the opportunity to dream, live well, and reach their full potential, irrespective of the circumstances they find themselves in. THAP envisions a society where every child is empowered to achieve their full potential.
THAP Team said: “Homelessness in our communities is an overlooked crisis that demands urgent attention.
“Thousands of young people sleep without shelter, and many are subjected to ridicule and alienation, which drives them into cycles of despair or negative influences.
“Beneath their outward façades of nonchalance or rebellion, however, lies a deep yearning for belonging and the opportunity to be seen and heard.”
Through this partnership, THAP and the Don Bosco Foundation aim to provide these vulnerable youths with the support systems needed to rediscover their identity, nurture their dreams, and lead meaningful lives.
“The Don Bosco Foundation, renowned for its commitment to getting children off the streets and offering them a pathway to a better future, will collaborate with THAP to deliver impactful programs and initiatives.
“At the Homeless Advocacy Project, we believe that every child, given the right environment and opportunities, can rise above their challenges to become agents of positive change.
“This partnership with Don Bosco Foundation reflects our shared vision of creating a more inclusive and compassionate society.”
By combining THAP’s advocacy expertise and Don Bosco Foundation’s hands-on approach, the partnership seeks to transform lives and foster hope for a brighter future for Nigeria’s homeless youth by raising awareness about the realities and struggles of homelessness among youths, develop sustainable initiatives that provide shelter, education, and skill-building opportunities, advocate for policy changes that address the root causes of homelessness and create long-term solutions.
The Homeless Advocacy Project continues to work towards its vision of a future where every child has the opportunity to live a life of dignity, purpose, and opportunity.
