ABUJA – The Association of Advocates Against Alcohol Harm in Nigeria (ASAAHN) has elected its new national executive, ushering in a fresh era of leadership dedicated to advancing alcohol policy reforms and reducing alcohol-related harm across the country.

The election took place during a pivotal meeting held on December 29, 2024, with the newly elected officials immediately sworn into office to assume their roles.

The event, which served as a platform to renew the coalition’s commitment to advocating for healthier communities, was presided over by outgoing executives.

Nwokocha Chijioke, elected as the National Chairman, emphasized the importance of unity and vision in strengthening ASAAHN’s advocacy.

Other officials elected include Amb. Pst. Kenneth Anetor as National Vice Chairman, Olubukola A. Omosanya as National General Secretary, Ikenna Daniel Molobe as National Treasurer, and Charles Chibuzor Chiejina as National Assistant Secretary.

ASAAHN, established in 2019 as the Nigerian subsidiary of the West African Alcohol Policy Advocacy Association (WAAPA), has grown into a coalition of over 50 civil society organizations (CSOs) representing all six geopolitical zones of Nigeria.

Since its launch on June 18, 2020, the association has been at the forefront of promoting effective alcohol control measures, engaging policymakers, and conducting public awareness campaigns to combat alcohol abuse.

The coalition’s strategic objectives include advocating for the adoption and enforcement of alcohol policy reforms, organizing educational programs to highlight the dangers of alcohol abuse, and supporting member organizations with resources and capacity-building initiatives.

Under its new leadership, ASAAHN plans to expand its impact within Nigeria and across Africa, furthering its mission to reduce alcohol-related harm and promote public health.
