The Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps, LAGESC, popularly known as Kick Against Indiscipline, KAI has reiterated the commitment of its operatives to activate increased environmental vigilance toward ensuring a cleaner, filth free Yuletide celebration.

The Corps Marshal of the agency, Major Olaniyi Cole (retd), who made the remark on Tuesday, at the Command Headquarters, Bolade-Oshodi, however, warned against indiscriminate refuse dump during and after the period.

According to him, “The Christmas holidays is a time to reflect on the life of Jesus Christ, make merry and enjoy with family and friends but it is also a time to tow the path of cleanliness by disposing off refuse appropriately and imbibe the habit of environmental consciousness beyond the holidays.”

Cole, urged residents to reflect on existing environmental choices which poses negative impact to the environment, citing the importance of strict adherence to environmental laws of the State, just as he highlighted the dangers of activities like street trading, hawking, erection off illegal structures on setbacks, lay-bys, medians, verges, kerbs and gutter slabs among other environmental infractions that remain harmful to Lagos environs.

Underscoring the need for residents in transit to desist from the unhealthy acts of public defecation and urination, the KAI boss bemoaned the high rate of defecation around the Berger area and remarked about a sharp decline due to the concerted efforts of a Special Squad drafted to the area to complement the efforts of the stand-by team as they work overnight to apprehend offenders due to the strategic location of Berger as a densely-populated entry point into the State.

Cole, finally urged residents to make use of pedestrian bridges as they commute around the State, celebrating with family at holiday spots, stressing the need to embrace safety in the Yuletide season as operatives will remain at their duty posts to deter defaulters from endangering their lives.

Also, the retired Major called for increased provision of intelligence from the citizenry to law enforcement agents for a hitch-free celebration.
