THE Vice Chancellor of University of Cross River State, UNICROSS Professor David Ogar has warned newly admitted students of the school to avoid truancy and other antisocial vices while remaining humble, hard working, listen to thier lecturers, abide by the school rules
Professor Abua handed down the warning at the weekend in Calàbar while administering admission oath to newly admitted 9,284 students to pursue various degree courses across ten faculties in the four campuses of the institution for the 2024/ 25 academic year.
He said many students in tertiary institutions are known to indulge in scam practices known as yahoo yahoo, prostitution, cultism and other antisocial vices and those acts are against the rules and regulations of the School and anyone caught indulging in them would face stern disciplinary measures.
“The next four or five years of your academic journey will be a defining period in your life and you must not allow any form of distraction to derail you from achieving your goals.
“I urge you to prepare your hearts and minds and commence hard work from the beginning because laziness and exam malpractice are not tolerated here and anyone caught would be sent home”.
He said the ceremony marks a milestone in the lives of the matriculants as they have officially become members of the University of Cross River State.
“This ceremony signifies your acceptance into an academic family that is committed to excellence in teaching, research, and character formulation.
” It is a moment to celebrate, but it is also a moment to reflect on the journey ahead- a journey that will demand your hardwork , determination and focus.” He said
The Vice chancellor advised the matriculating students not to relent in the engagement of lecturers and their peers whenever need be, stressing on the need to seek help from thier academic Adviser or counseling units for guidance if needed.
“Manage your time wisely as time management is critical.Balance your academic responsibilities with personal development activities. Complete all assignments, assignments are not just tasks to be completed but opportunity to deepen your understanding of course content.”. He said.
The Vice Chancellor advised the new students to develop study schedule that will allow them to review materials thoroughly ahead of all semesters examinations If they so desire to graduate in flying colours.
Breakdown of the admission stretches thus: faculty of Agriculture 40, Management Science 1,374, Biological sciences 886, Architecture 157, Physical sciences 1,836, Communication Technology 1,101, Engineering 1,204, education 1,554,Basic medical sciences 820 and environmental sciences 302, total of 9,284.
