A student leader, Oladoja Olushola, has commended President Bola Tinubu for allocating N3.5 trillion to the education sector in the 2025 federal budget.
Olushola, who is vying for the presidency of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, next year, opined that the development shows the commitment of the President to upgrade and improve the education sector.
He stated this in a statement he signed on Thursday and which was made available to the Vanguard.
“Today is one of the happiest days of my life, as a Nigerian youth and student. Today, we made history as a country. Today, the leadership of our great country, led by His Excellency, President Bola Tinubu, allocated over N3.5 trillion to the education sector in the 2025 budget, prioritizing education and demonstrating its unique influence on social development throughout the country.
“In Nigeria’s history, particularly since our return to democracy, this allocation is the highest the education sector has received, and I am incredibly proud to be alive during this time.
“The action of President Tinubu is remarkable, revealing an intentional effort to invest in the future and greatness of education. It reveals a strong will to shapen the trajectory of our educational system, redefine its performance, and place the sector on the pedestal of competing with many other developing countries of the world. More significantly in this allocation is the unspoken commitment of Mr. President, to partnering with stakeholders and actors in Nigeria’s education sector and to reinforce that the days of laxity within this social spectrum are over: it is no longer going to be business as usual.
“Your Excellency, I applaud this great feat that you have achieved for this great country and the recognition that you have given to Nigerian students and youths. Mr. President, we are grateful for this monumental departure from the era when our educational sector could be described as declining in quality and value. This allocation is a worthwhile investment that will boost the fortunes of the sector and advance quality teaching and production of learning resources that will stand the test of time. We, the Nigerian students and youths, see this allocation as experimental, indicating that there are better days ahead for our education sector.
“This step marks the beginning of great and better financing of Nigeria’s education sector, increasing the prospects of quality teaching, learning, and knowledge production to influence adequate social change across all spheres of the Nigerian society. Thank you once again, Your Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and we pray that these kind fortunes that we will enjoy in the education sector will be used judiciously and would yield the tangible fruits that we anticipate.”
