ABUJA – The Nigeria Democratic Front (NDF) has called on the Department of State Services (DSS) to disclose the findings of its investigation into alleged links between a senior lawmaker and a wanted terrorist.
The group emphasized the urgent need for transparency, particularly given the national security implications of the allegations.
In a statement signed by its National Spokesperson, Ikenna Ellis Ezenekwe, the NDF described the situation as alarming.
It urged the DSS to release the results of its investigation to enable appropriate action, warning that the agency’s continued silence risks eroding public trust in Nigeria’s security apparatus and governance.
The allegations centre on claims that the lawmaker provided logistical support to Abubakar Idris, a notorious terrorist arrested in Bauchi State on August 17, 2024.
The NDF warned that failure to act decisively on the allegations could embolden criminals and deepen public distrust.
According to the NDF, addressing the issue transparently and urgently is critical to restoring public confidence and combating terrorism and banditry, which have devastated communities across Nigeria, particularly in the North-East and North-West.
It called on the DSS to prioritize the probe and ensure justice is served to protect the nation’s stability and future.
The statement reads, “Our DSS is renowned for its integrity and professionalism. We urge the agency to consider the thousands of Nigerians who have been murdered, maimed, or displaced by terrorist activities in this country. The time to act is now. National security must not be compromised for political expediency.
“Political patronage is a major factor enabling the proliferation of terrorism and banditry in Nigeria. The DSS must prioritize this investigation and ensure that the truth is brought to light.
“The Nigerian people are watching, and they will hold those in power accountable for their actions—or inactions.
“The consequences of ignoring this issue are too great; and Nigeria cannot afford to ignore or perpetuate a cycle of corruption and violence that has not only cost it a lot but also threatens its survival. The time to act is now.”
