The Executive Secretary Benue State Emergency Management Agency BSEMA Dr. James Iorpuu has stated that the Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, situation in the state demands innovative, technology-driven solutions to have it effectively tackled.
Dr. Iorpuu spoke Monday shortly before signing a Memoranda of Understanding, MOU, with the Bureau for Special Projects, the Benue Digital Infrastructure Company and the State Bureau for Homeland Security in Makurdi.
He stated that the partnership was setting the stage for a new era in emergency management and humanitarian response in the State.
According to him “this initiative reflects our shared commitment to aligning our services with international standards, thereby positioning Benue as a model for other states in Nigeria.
“As we gather here, we are reminded of the immense challenges faced by our IDPs, host communities, and the citizens of Benue State.
“These challenges demand innovative, technology-driven solutions that will strengthen our capacity to respond effectively and efficiently to emergencies. This partnership is therefore timely, as it seeks to integrate advanced digital tools into our operations, enabling us to better serve the people of Benue State.”
The Director-General, Benue Homeland Security, Air Commodore Jacob Gbamwuan (retd) said the initiative was part of government’s effort to monitor what was happening in all the nooks and crannies of the state, noting “it is an integral system to ensure the security of the people.”
The Managing Director, Benue Digital Infrastructure Company, Terwase Gbande said plans were on to install surveillance monitors to guard against influx of foreign elements into the State.
The Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Aondowase Kunde lauded the initiative saying it was coning at an appropriate time.
