With several senior bandit leaders having laid down their arms and embraced peace, along with their followers in Kaduna State, Governor Uba Sani has assured that security agencies are fully aligned with their efforts, and those who have agreed to renounce violence will be protected and rehabilitated.
Governor Sani expressed satisfaction over the reopening of the Kidandan market in Giwa Local Government, which had remained closed for several years due to insecurity. He was represented at the event by his Chief of Staff, Alhaji Sani Liman Kila.
In his remarks, Governor Sani stated that the reopening of Kidandan market on Sunday “marks the beginning of the return of peace and stability to Giwa Local Government.” He noted that the recent reopening of the Birnin Gwari livestock market on November 29, after being closed for nearly a decade, marked the start of renewed commercial activities in the region.
Governor Sani emphasized, “Peace is an invaluable asset. It is the key to progress and development. Conflict destroys, while peace builds. I am happy that after the milestone we recorded in Birnin Gwari, Giwa has followed suit. Indeed, peace is the only way.”
The Governor reassured the public that the Peace Dialogue Group is actively working to ensure that agreements are upheld, ensuring a sustainable peace process for the benefit of the people. He further emphasized that security agencies are in full support, and anyone who has laid down their arms will be protected and rehabilitated.
Governor Sani also highlighted that the reopening of the Kidandan market would revitalize the local economy and create significant opportunities for the people of Giwa Local Government. He urged the community to embrace unity, stating, “We are one people. We may have differences, but there are peaceful ways of resolving issues. Let us collectively say no to violence and conflicts. Let us join hands to create a prosperous future for Giwa Local Government.”
Dr. James Atung Kanyip, the Commissioner for Security and Internal Affairs, also spoke at the event, emphasizing the importance of continued peace efforts and the need for public support.
Sheikh Yusuf Musa Asadussunah, Chairman of the Peace and Reconciliation Committee, shared that through numerous meetings and extensive dialogue, trust has been rebuilt, and several senior bandit leaders, along with their followers, have embraced peace. He urged the government to ensure that those who remain in detention but are innocent are released by security agencies.
In his welcome address, the Chairman of Giwa Local Government, Hon. Sani Yakawada, thanked the state government, security agencies, and religious and traditional leaders for their roles in restoring peace to the area.
